Why would I ever get a Standard Poodle?
The American Kennel Club (AKC) has put out a great video on the Standard Poodle. It is worth a watch.

One of the smartest breeds, the poodle, originally bred for duck hunting, has a variety of temperaments that allows for a multitude of jobs: service dogs for the disabled, therapy dogs at hospitals, schools and disaster relief centers, K-9 officers, search and rescue fielder trackers, hunters of bird and small game, sled pullers, mountain climbing and trail blazing buddies, or your best friend, on the couch, with a bowl of popcorn and a movie.
When looking to place our poodles in their forever homes, MOST IMPORTANT is that the temperament of the poodle matches the temperament wanted in the home. Color and sex are secondary to us. If we were to give you a poodle that would do best on an agility field, and you wanted a couch potato, or if you wanted a take your dog everywhere as a socialite and we gave you an independent, "I don't need anyone", old soul, we would have failed both you and the dog.
We understand that everyone has preferences to which color, boy or girl, and we try to do everything in our powers to get you everything you want. If we personally cannot, we will also refer you to other reparable breeders that may be able to.
What size are Standard Poodles?
They start at 15 inches and can go up to 30+inches. We focus mostly on larger Poodles, 23-28 inches.
What's the average life span of a Standard Poodle?
12-15 years.
What's the difference between the Boys and Girls?
Of course this is just a general overview and there are always exceptions the the norm. Standard Poodles Boys are the epitome of a “Momma’s Boy”. They are more sensitive than girls. While he will love the entire family, males tend to bond more closely to one person. For this reason they make great service dogs. Girls are more aloof. Nothing really bothers them. They love the whole family and prefer to bounce between everyone. They make great therapy dogs.
What Colors do Standard Poodles come in?
Poodles come in a full spectrum of colors; white, cream, apricot, red, brown, cafe-au-lait, silver beige, silver, blue, black; and patterns, from solids to spots and dots to stripes (brindle) to phantom (markings like a doberman) and sable. Most of ours poodles are solid, some may have a white spot or two, but you never know, Mother Nature could surprise us with something else.

Do Standard Poodles require a lot of grooming?
YES! Their fur is more like your human hair and as such continues to grow. Like your hair, it will come off in small amounts in the hair brush or on your clothes. It does not shed like other dogs. Therefore, they need constant brushing, washing and trimming. Trips to the groomer, regularly, is a must. Poodles should be groomed every 2-4 weeks depending on the hair cut style. What would happen if you didn't brush your hair for a few weeks? It would mat, right? Same principle!
What is Coat change?
Poodles are born with soft fluffy hair. Around adolescence, the adult hair starts to grow in. While the coarser, curlier adult hair grows in, the soft puppy hair gets entangled with the new hair and causes matting. This matting can cause a hematoma if not prevented by daily combing/brushing. Some people find it easier to keep the hair groomed very short during this time. Coat change can last for 6 - 12 months. It starts as early as 6 months but could be delayed till 18 months.
Do you remove dewclaws or dock tails?
Standard Poodle should only be born with front dewclaws. Studies have shown that working dogs and performance dogs benefit from the use of the front dewclaw. Therefore, we do not remove them. Docking tails actually removes bones from the length of the dog's tail. Again, there is no evidence that this has any benefit, other then beauty, in a standard poodle. Therefore, we do not dock. We do remove the very tip of the tail, which is only skin, to help the tail from curling over itself. There is no surgery or stitches involved.
Are Standard Poodles good with kids?
YES!!! Of course all dogs and children need proper supervision. Take a look at some of the families that own a Figz Poodle:

How often and what vaccines should I use with my poodle?
We believe in vaccinations. We don't believe in over-vaccinating. Here is an interesting article from Dr Dodds in regards to vaccinations: https://drjeandoddspethealthresource.tumblr.com/post/178145379091/different-vaccine-types-and-advancements

What should I feed my Standard Poodle?
Poodles, just like people, prefer different foods at different times. We feed both raw and kibble. Kibble is left out throughout the day so they may snack on it to keep their stomachs from producing excess bile. Raw is given twice a day, mid-morning and evening.
Kibble is kept to premium brands such as Purina Pro Plan sport, Essence, Kiwi, Ziwi, Open Farm, etc and flavors are rotated. Puppy food for large breeds should be given until 12 months because your growing Poodle needs extra calcium and glucosamine. The FDA has concluded that food high in pea protein (in the first 5 ingredients) causes heart issues. For our guardian females, flaxseed should be avoided.
Raw MUST BE complete, more than just meat. We order our raw from Jake and Blue's Raw Dog Food.
Here is a recipe that will make it easy to feed a complete raw diet if purchasing food the grocery store: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P85BMCCboI. Other raw enhancements like Grandma Lucy's Macana or Origins can be added to raw meat to give a more complete diet.
